Confirmation of New Firefly Release

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

[Jewel] Staite revealed that she had recently been asked to provide new commentary for what she called “a special edition of Firefly in a box set”. Many of you were very excited, but some fans immediately questioned this, wondering if the Australia location of Staite’s revelation meant that perhaps this release is planned for “down under”, instead of the United States. Our own Gord Lacey contacted Fox Home Entertainment about Staite’s comments, and asked them if this release - if actually coming - would be on DVD or Blu-ray Disc. Fox replied that it is indeed coming, for Blu-ray Disc format!

The response we received from Fox was very brief, but also commented that “word travels fast”. As you can imagine by how recently Staite indicates she was contacted (she had “just heard”, as you may recall), this package is still in the planning and development stages. Therefore, a release timeframe hasn’t been set yet, and many details have not been finalized. Stay tuned, though, because we’ll be keeping a close eye on this, and will update you as further info comes in.

Fans required to show up online on April 5th

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Fans of Firefly & Serenity are being urged to show their support for a Sequel to Serenity by visiting the Universal HD boards on Saturday April 5th just before 8 PM Eastern Standard Time - nothing else required, just be there.

Ni hao again fellow Browncoats! Operation Full Burn is still underway and as “Lift Off” to the series draws near I want to continue to show Universal that the ‘Verse is worth investing in. To do this I’d like Browncoats to show their support for the ‘Verse by showing up to these forums on April 5th just before 8 PM Eastern Standard Time as Serenity break atmo in High Def for the first time this season.

That’s it! That’s all a Browncoat has to do to show their shiny love for the ‘Verse. Just show up to the forums here as Serenity heads out into the High-Definition black for 14 weeks. It’s a piece of pressed protein cake with chocolaty frosting!

As always folks are welcome to say somethin’ if they got words but the point is to get as many Browncoats on the site as we can at one specific time “Lift Off” time in this case.

As of right now the most folks who have ever been on the Universal site at one time has been 90 folks. Sure it’s a nice round number but I want to blow it up with Browncoats so that Universal will see that we are still here and holdin’ for them to make Serenity 2.

That’s the notion folks. I hope to see everyone there… feel free to bring a WHOLE bunch of friends!

Jewel Staite Says More Firefly Coming

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

OK. we got your attention and we’re not exactly lying but here’s the deal.

Jewel Staite attended the Supanova Expo in Melbourne, Australia this weekend and over the two days graciously answered a lot of questions from fans of Firefly and Stargate Atlantis. During the first session Jewel was asked what she thought the storyline of Serenity would go. Jewel replied, “I always wanted Kaylee to become a mother” and added “hopefully there’ll be a Serenity 2″.

In the Q&A session the following day, a fan asked if there was any reason to still hope for another movie, Jewel’s response was “Absolutely!”.

Jewel also told fans that she’d been asked to go to LA in the Spring to record a commentary for the new special edition of Firefly that they’re working on. Great news for fans, but Jewel wonders why they don’t just make more instead of re-releasing it again.

Firefly is back on TV

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

The Firefly pilot “Serenity” will air on the Universal HD channel on Saturday the 5th of April at 8pm.

Yes! Joss Whedon’s snarky, Everlasting Gobstopper of a space Western returns to Universal HD. What’s all the fuss? Well, for those not in the know, “Firefly” had a short shelf life when it first aired on network television. But fans loved, loved loved it. “Firefly” fever spawned books, comics, games and even a theatrical feature. So we’re bringing back all 14 episodes. And the 2-hour pilot. All in remastered, sparkly-shiny hi-def. Beginning in April, the Browncoats are back!

Serenity Day 2008

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Serenity Day 2008 is a fan campaign to encourage sales of the Serenity Collectors Edition DVDs. It is hoped that with good sales figures Universal will greenlight a sequel to the 2005 Sci-fi movie Serenity.

Serenity Day 2008 is Sunday, August 17, 2008 the eve of the one-year anniversary of the release of the Serenity Collectors Edition DVD.

The ultimate goal of Serenity Day 2008 is to push initial year-over-year sales figures for the Collectors Edition “off the charts, through the stratosphere, and into the Black.”

A reminder

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Done the Impossible DVDSome time has passed since the efforts of fans turned the cancelled TV show Firefly into the big screen movie Serenity. Having posted about a number of rumours and fan campaigns lately, perhaps it’s time for a reminder of just how much difference the efforts of fans an make. There’s no better way to see how the hard work of fans has paid off than to watch the documentary “Done the Impossible”.

I hesitate to refer to this a “fan” documentary because it’s so much more than you’d expect - a totally professional production so jam packed full of extra material including a bunch of extended interviews with cast members and a fully interactive PC component that lets you do so much more than just watch a documentary. If you’re a fan and you haven’t got it yet, trust me when I say it’s time you did.

If you enjoy the music used throughout the DVD you can also buy the soundtrack.
