The first issue of the Dark Horse Comics 3 part series “Serenity: Better Days” will be released this month (12 March 08).

“Serenity: Better Days” is based on the planned plot-line for the TV series “Firefly” and will take place before the events of the movie “Serenity”.

Because it’s set to fill in the gap between the series and the movie, fans hope that this means the door is being left open for another movie to carry on where “Serenity” left off.

Parts 2 & 3 will be released in April and May of this year. Another new comic is being planned for 2009. Co-written by Joss Whedon, “A Shepherd’s Tale” will tell the story of Shepherd Book’s past.

Australian DVD retailer EzyDVD is currently offering Disk 1 of the “Firefly” TV series for just $1. Fans have expressed interest in the offer suggesting it may be an effective way of introducing new viewers to the series with little financial outlay. Fans suggest that the offer has the potential to increase sales of the complete DVD set of “Firefly” in addition to the big screen movie “Serenity”.

With creator Joss Whedon and star Alan Tudyk both stating earlier in the year that hope for a sequel to “Serenity” rests with the sales figures of the “Serenity” Collector’s Edition, fans feel the timing for this special offer couldn’t be better.

In addition to the $1 for disc one of the Firefly series offer, Australian retailers are advertising the future release of the Australian Special Edition “Serenity” 2 disc DVD set which features an additional 30 minutes of material not available on the current 2 disc set.

Following on from the Collectors Edition of Serenity released in the US last August, Australia will get it’s own Special Edition of the cult hit movie. The new 2 disc edition, available in March, is stated to feature “30 minutes of NEW bonus content”.

The Collectors Edition has been a huge success with rumors suggesting that it made more than half a million dollars in it’s first week.

These new releases have fueled a buzz of interest amongst fans with rumors of a Sequel encouraging fans to keep hoping for more stories from their beloved characters.

Rumours indicate that the eventual green-light on another movie will depend on creator Joss Whedon’s willingness to be involved and will likely be a direct to DVD production.

Universal has announced a new two-disc collector’s edition of Serenity which stars Nathan Fillion. This Joss Whedon directed sci-fi will be available to own from the 21st August, and should retail at around $26.98. The film itself will be presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with English Dolby Digital 5.1, and DTS 5.1 Surround tracks.

Extras will include a audio commentary with Whedon, a second commentary with Whedon, Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau and Ron Glass, a Joss Whedon intro, deleted scenes with director commentary, extended scenes, outtakes, and a Take A Walk On Serenity featurette. Completing the package will be a Green Clan featurette, a We’ll Have A Fruity Oaty Good Time! feature, A Filmmaker’s Journey featurette, a Future History: The Story Of Earth That Was featurette, a Re-lighting The Firefly featurette, a What’s In A Firefly? featurette, a Session 416 feature, and a Sci-Fi Inside: Serenity feature.
