Call for NBC to air Firefly/Serenity during writers strike

With the ongoing writers strike, issues are starting to arise as to what networks are going to broadcast while current programs are suspended.

Fans of the cult hit series Firefly are suggesting that this is a perfect time to re-air all 14 episodes of Firefly and the follow-up movie Serenity on NBC during prime time.

“It’s one of the best shows most people have never had the chance to see and it couldn’t be a better deal for NBC.” says one fan of the show.

“Here is a critically acclaimed TV series, well ahead of it’s time, cut down early but still has a large and (more importantly) ever growing fan base. On top of that it is a perfect set-up/lead in to the Universal Pictures movie Serenity which could also be played on NBC after showing the final episode of Firefly. It’s a Win/Win situation.”

“Viewers will get to see some very good, scripted, television even with a strike going on. NBC will be able to fill some holes that may pop up in it’s programming schedule with really great television that a vast majority of viewers never had a chance to see (much better than re-runs or reality TV). Plus a fine product tie-in to the NBC/Universal motion picture Serenity which will help boost DVD sales going into X-mas.”

I’d watch it and I’d get my friends to watch it, NBC would be smart to air firefly during primetime (or anytime) to boost Serenity DVD sales.

I totally agree with the article. Firefly and Serenity are two of the best things to hit the small and big screen in a long time. Time for more!!!

Yes, Firefly is owned by FOX, and Universal owns Serenity. I doubt NBC would be able to air episodes of Firefly.

Don’t just dig it… post it too at the NBC boards! http://boards.nbc.com/nbc/index.php?s=ea4d1a88662a8ff401485bc780cf6110&showtopic=774259&st=0

I do not watch TV, and thus it was by merest accident that I had the good fortune to discover the ‘Verse. NBC would be doing a favor to itself by announcing such a FF/Serentiy event, as I’m sure they would now get advertisers for it in a way, ironically, that the original broadcast did not.

firefly is no longer owned by fox, its owned by nbc-universal. thats why they can play re-runs on the nbc owned scifi channel.

I would love to see the BDH on primetime T.V. NBC ,but they have all their big stars wanting the people to see them even in repeats .

But I am also a Big dreamer and it would be the biggest ratings coup for NBC to pull off !! Very Shiny!

  16. Dan Bauman Says:

“Chuck’s” Adam Baldwin stars in ‘Serenity’This Friday at 8:00. See how it all began! Tune in for the Firefly Marathon, starting Monday at 8:00 on NBC!

I have sent an email and will also submit this comment.

Firefly has a passionate fan base. The show was only on for 12 of the 14 episodes and there was enough of a monumental push to make a movie.

I have only seen the show through DVD. I came upon the show by watching the movie. The movie was good, but the show was even better.

Please NBC, consider doing this. You may find that:
    A) you fanbase, and not in the US only, increasing
    B) a potential replacement for some of the other shows that are doing as well as hoped in the ratings.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Regards,
